Lisa Dobriskey begins her quest for her first major championship gold medal for four years at the European Athletics Championships tomorrow.
The Ashford-born 1500-metre runner heads into the championships, held in Barcelona, as one of the favourites for the title and is keen to underline her label as one of the world’s best middle distance runners.
The reigning Commonwealth champion has endured an indifferent season so far, but appears to be peaking at just the right time. Dobriskey, who has been suffering from a niggling back injury, ran close to her personal best of 3 minutes 59.50 seconds at the Diamond League meeting in Paris earlier this month.
She will enter the event, which is one of the last major championships before the London 2012 Olympics, as the third fastest European this season, behind Russian Anna Alminova and France’s Hind Dehiba.
Dobriskey will line up in the heats tomorrow evening she will line up in the final on Sunday at 10.15pm.
